Subscribing for Magazine Order
It seems as though on the television, in our mailboxes, on the Internet, and in newspapers we see advertisements for magazine orders. Even in magazines we buy, we will find magazine order forms to offer friends and family. Magazines are widely advertised this way, and it is probably the most effective way to advertise for them. Just thinking about how many hands will touch the magazine order form at any given time is amazing, considering how many waiting rooms have magazines to flip through while you wait. So why is it that magazine outfits seem to have a hard time keeping their head above water when it comes to staying in business?
There are numerous reasons, but one reason in particular is because of their magazine order forms. If you have ever really used one or looked at one before, you will notice that many give an option to pay for the magazine subscription at the time of sending in the magazine order form or sending payment later, when they receive an invoice.
The problem with this is the fact that these magazine companies start mailing subscriptions to consumers before they receive payment, and in many cases they end up never being paid. Either the consumer doesn’t like the magazine and doesn’t see a need to pay for it, or they simply ignore the invoices and figure they will keep getting the magazine as long as they can without paying for it. They assume that if they can get away with receiving the magazine month after month there is no reason why they shouldn’t continue to.
It is true that magazines make money from advertisers who purchase space in the pages of their content, but it does not seem fair that they have to lose money from magazine order forms because consumers want to get something for nothing. I am sure they have thought about all of this, and for some reason unknown to anyone who reads this; the magazines continue to offer magazine order forms in the same fashion that helps them lose money.
Is it a way to spread the word on their magazine, figuring losing subscription money here and there will at least offer word of mouth advertising? This is possible, and more than likely hits the nail on the head. But remember that if you subscribe to a magazine that you really enjoy and would like to see stick around, be certain to pay the subscription fee and do your part in making sure the magazine keeps their head above water so they can continue to bring you the content you enjoy. Also, encourage family and friends when they are filling out a magazine order form to pay their subscription fees so your favorite magazine doesn’t disappear from the news shelves.
