Phil Ivey in the Game of Poker

Phil Ivey is a professional poker player and is considered by his peers to be amongst the most talented poker players in the world today. Sometimes referred to as the Tiger Woods of poker, Phil is known for his focus, calm composure, and his observant nature, helping him to take in information other players may be giving off. A master of picking up on tells, many opponents he has beaten remark on his mind reading like ability to call bluffs.

Born in 1976, Phil Ivey grew up in New Jersey, and grew to love the game of poker while honing his skills against his coworkers of the telemarketing firm he worked at as a teenager. He used a fake ID to play in Atlantic City as a minor, and earned the nickname 'No Home Jerome', the name on the ID, as a result.

In 2002, Phil Ivey won three gold bracelets at the World Series of Poker, tying Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest for the most bracelet wins in a single year. He has demonstrated talent in numerous forms of the poker game, and has won a total of five WSOP bracelets, the other two being for Pot Limit Omaha Hold'em in 2000 and 2005.

In 2005, Phil Ivey had another year for multiple successes. In November he won the Monte Carlo Tournament million-dollar first prize. Just four days later he went on to win FullTiltPoker.Net's invitational tournament, also held in Monte Carlo, and broadcasted live on Fox Sports, beating six other professional poker players considered to be the best in the world and winning an additional six hundred thousand dollars.

Phil has played in a number of World Tour of Poker events, making it to the final table several times, but has yet to take home a win there. He has also placed in the top 25 of the WSOP three times in the last four years, in spite of the rapidly growing numbers of players entering each year.

It is estimated that Phil Ivey has won over five million dollars in his poker career so far. In spite of his tremendous success as a professional poker player, Phil Ivey is known for a humble attitude, which may be a large part of his continuous victories. Always learning from his mistakes and attempting to master his game, Phil Ivey is a poker name that will likely go down as one of the greats of all time.
